CRB Implements Project to Distribute 70 Electric Wheelchairs for Persons with Disabilities

Years of protracted conflict and chronic underfunding have pushed water systems in Ma’rib to the brink of collapse. Groundwater is being depleted at nearly twice the rate of natural replenishment, causing critical water sources to shrink and leaving communities with increasingly limited and unreliable access.
Before the Coalition of Relief and Building (CRB)’s intervention, water supply across many displacement sites was severely inadequate. In some locations, families received piped water only once a month—forcing them to rely on unsafe, contaminated sources or purchase costly trucked water, placing an unsustainable burden on already vulnerable households.
The Human Impact
In the most overcrowded sites, access to clean water often required walking distances of 3 to 5 kilometers. This not only reduced daily water consumption below minimum humanitarian standards but also exposed women and children—who bear the primary responsibility for water collection—to significant protection risks.
CRB’s Response: Delivering Immediate Relief
Recognizing Ma’rib as a priority area for WASH interventions, CRB implemented emergency water trucking and distribution to meet urgent needs. Through this response, over 2.5 million liters of safe water were delivered to 24 of the most vulnerable IDP sites, ensuring reliable access directly at the point of use.
This intervention has contributed to:
– Improved Public Health: Reducing the risk of waterborne diseases, including acute watery diarrhea, in densely populated sites.
– Enhanced Protection: Minimizing exposure to risks by eliminating long and unsafe journeys for water collection.
– Economic Relief: Easing the financial strain on families previously dependent on expensive private water vendors.
Looking Ahead
While this intervention provides a critical lifeline, the scale and severity of Yemen’s water crisis require sustained and long-term solutions. CRB remains committed to working alongside local authorities, service providers, and partners to strengthen water systems and support the transition toward sustainable, climate-resilient infrastructure.
