A child called Ziyad Al-Qabani, aged 12,  went through a difficult situation because of the fire that engulfed his family tents-made residence and was about to put an end for his life as well as his other family members.

After suffering the bitterness of displacement and difficult conditions, the child Ziyad settled with his family in Al-Jufinah camp in Marib. On a summer day of 2023, a fire suddenly engulfed his home, causing extensive damage and leaving him in pain, suffering, and deteriorating health.

The blaze left Ziyad with severe burns, scarring his body and threatening his life.

In the midst of despair, Ziyad’s father found out that Coalition of Relief and Building  provides support for similar emergency cases, and that gave him a glimmer of hope  after the family had been struck by despair and lost all hope that had kept them alive.

The visit of Ziyad Al-Qabbani’s father to the CRB headquarters in Marib and his request for assistance was the beginning that brought Ziyad back to life, as he says, amid the suffering Yemeni families are experiencing as a result of the country’s current situation.

After assessing his condition, Coalition of Relief and Building (CRB)  did its best to provide emergency assistance and support to Ziyad to restore hope to the child and his family, who had been stricken with despair as a result of the tragic accident. CRB provided him with surgical support and treatment. The child underwent numerous surgeries and was transferred to several hospitals until he fully recovered.

Dr. Hassan Ali Abdo, Ziyad’s treating physician, recalled the severity of his injuries: “Ziyad was admitted with a 15% risk of death, suffering from third-degree burns and requiring reconstruction of 22% of his body surface area.”

In previous statements to CRB’s Humanitarian Media Center, Dr. Hassan explained that ”The surgery was successful, and other joint surgeries were performed to ensure the child’s movement and walking, which was essential for joint to move. He expressed his gratitude for all the humanitarian efforts made to save Ziyad’s life.”

The great role of specialized treatment and support made Ziyad able to overcome the effects of the fire. Ziyad overcame his difficulties and made a remarkable recovery. He returned to life with high morale and strong determination, returning to his normal life, as he stated in his interview with the CRB’s Humanitarian Media Center.

Ziyad Al-Qabbani’s story is a testament to the human spirit’s resilience and the transformative power of social support and the humanitarian aid provided by active bodies like CRB. His journey serves as an inspiration, demonstrating that with courage, determination, and the right support, anyone can overcome adversity.
