Urgent Appeal: Humanitarian Intervention Needed in Tihamah, Yemen
August 8, 2024Citizens displaced by devastating floods in Yemen’s Tihamah regions, specifically Hajjah and Hodeida Governorates, are issuing a distress call for immediate humanitarian intervention. The catastrophic situation demands urgent attention, with thousands of lives at risk.
The Executive Unit for the Management of IDPs’ Camps in Hajjah Governorate announced that the north of the governorate is a disaster area as – 3,521 displaced families have been severely affected by the heavy rains during the past few days, with most losing their homes
– Thousands of residents, primarily children and women, require emergency assistance in the districts of Midi, Haradh, Hayran, and Abs.
Coalition of Relief and Building (CRB) notes that “this catastrophic situation requires urgent and comprehensive intervention to confront its repercussions and alleviate the suffering of the displaced affected by the rain and floods.”
CRB also points out that all displaced families living in emergency shelters like tents or huts made of tree branches, were completely or partially damaged due to the heavy rains and floods that hit northern Hajjah and inflicted damage on homes, livestock, shops, markets and the private property of the displaced.
We urge humanitarian partners, including international and UN organizations, to respond promptly to the affected people’s calls for help. The situation demands comprehensive intervention to alleviate the suffering of the displaced and provide essential relief, represented by the following:
-Shelter materials, emergency food, water, and other essential needs required by the emergency situation in the affected districts north of Hajjah Governorate.
