A report by the Center for Humanitarian Information, CRB Yemen.

Yemen is witnessing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world as 20.7 million people need humanitarian aid while 1.4 million people are at risk of starvation.

12 million children’s lives have turned into a nightmare and they are in need of humanitarian help, meanwhile 2.1 million children suffer from acute malnutrition, and one Yemeni child dies every ten minutes from a preventable disease.

Following are the some main reasons of this crisis:

– Armed Conflict

The number of active combat fronts increased from 33 to 49 during 2019-2020

-Economic collapse

80% of Yemenis live below the poverty line, and 40% of families have lost their sources of income.

-Market Trends and Fluctuating Exchange Rates.

The prices of food commodities and fuel have increased by more than 150% compared to
pre-crisis rates, and the value of the Yemeni riyal decreased by two-thirds in the north and three-quarters in the south compared to pre-crisis rates.

Natural Disasters

More than three hundred thousand people were affected by the floods during the year 2020, and there was loss of 222 million YER in the field of agriculture due to locusts in 2020.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations indicated that two-thirds of Yemenis need humanitarian assistance to survive, while more than 16 million people will face starvation this year, and about 50,000 Yemenis are already starving to death in famine-like conditions, nearly the half of Yemeni children -under the age of five-suffering from acute malnutrition, 400,000 of them are likely to die if they do not receive urgent treatment.
