We have followed with profound sadness and sorrow the events witnessed in the West Coast regions of Yemen today, March 27, where torrential floods have resulted in catastrophic humanitarian consequences. These floods have exacerbated the suffering of thousands of families, leaving them in an extremely difficult and complex humanitarian situation.
According to preliminary information, approximately 2,560 families have been affected. Twelve deaths and nine missing persons have been recorded, alongside widespread destruction of housing, with 38 homes completely destroyed and 625 homes partially damaged. Families have also suffered heavy losses to their livelihoods, including the death of 445 heads of livestock and the loss of another 335, in addition to significant damage to food supplies and basic necessities owned by the families.
In light of this disaster, we at the Coalition of Relief and Building (CRB) hereby issue an urgent appeal. We call upon all humanitarian partners to intervene to address the repercussions of this humanitarian catastrophe and alleviate the suffering of the displaced and affected individuals. We look forward to a response to the calls of those affected and to providing aid to these disaster-stricken areas.
