For decades, the residents of Al-Rabsa area in Al-Hawak District, Hodeida Governorate, western Yemen, have suffered from water scarcity and a lack of basic resources, as well as difficulty accessing clean, usable water. They struggle for survival, enduring poverty, hardship, and deteriorating living conditions.

The nearest well is located three kilometers away and that made accessing clean water a daily challenge. So the water problem has been a source of concern for residents, troubling them and disrupting their sleep.

Generally, Hodeida Governorate suffers from difficulty accessing clean water that significantly affects residents’ health and living standard. To be added, the economic situation resulting from the ongoing war in the country, makes it difficult for local communities to obtain the necessary support to meet their basic needs.

In response to that, Coalition of Relief and Building  intervened to provide a sustainable source of clean water, ensure residents have access to clean and safe drinking water, and promote community stability. CRB’s team visited large areas of  Hodeida Governorate and began conducting field studies and identified the dire need of the people of  Al -Hawak.

After conducting field studies, CRB implemented a drinking water project, consisting of an artesian well with a solar-powered submersible pump and a reinforced concrete ground tank. This project benefits 168 families, ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water.

Hajj Saad Muhammad, a village resident, told the CRB’s Humanitarian Media Center about his struggle to get water, ”Obtaining daily clean water was like a miracle for us as we spent long hours on that, but now we can get water easily.”

He went on explaining, “We were searching for a drop of water, and our children left school in search of water,” referring to the suffering they endured in their lives to obtain water during the past period. He described that ‘ as one of the most difficult periods for them and their families, given the harsh conditions surrounding the residents.

After CRB’s intervention and the implementation of the project in  Rabsa area, access to water became easier and more convenient. Children have returned to school, and young men are seeking employment opportunities to support their families
