In a country devastated by war and torn apart by years-long conflict, education has become an unattainable dream for thousands of Yemeni children. In Al-Suwayda Camp, Marib Governorate, the tent was once the classroom, surrounded by sandy walls, and the wind served as a constant bell.<\/strong><\/h5>\n
In the arid desert, where endless rows of tents spread across the landscape, children sit on simple mats, clutching worn notebooks and holding onto hope. Among them is 11-year-old Al-Anoud Othman, a symbol of a generation determined to persevere through harsh conditions in pursuit of education.<\/strong><\/h5>\n
Al-Anoud recalls, “We learned in tents, with no walls to shield us and no doors to keep out the sand, but our dreams never faded.” Alongside her, other children carry their modest aspirations in battered notebooks, sitting in light fabric tents that offer minimal protection from the sun, with the desert winds becoming an integral part of their daily learning experience<\/strong><\/h5>\n
The schools were merely dilapidated tents exposed to the relentless sun, with winds frequently turning pages before teachers could. Responding to these urgent needs, Coalition of Relief and Building (CRB) decided to make education a non-negotiable priority within its humanitarian agenda in Marib.<\/strong><\/h5>\n
CRB initiated a project to construct a model school within the camp. The project transformed the tents into solid walls, the mats into proper seating, and uncertainty into new beginnings. Within a few months, a school comprising twelve fully equipped classrooms arose amidst the desert sands<\/strong><\/h5>\n
Al-Anoud studies with more than 600 students in clean classrooms, with windows protected from storms and doors opening toward a brighter future. Deputy Principal Abdu Al-Serbi notes, \u201cThe difference this school has made is beyond words; children are now more attentive, motivated, and parents feel reassured about their children\u2019s future. The school has not only offered a suitable learning environment, but also become a center for cultivating values, talents, and hope in the hearts of children who have lost so much to conflict.\u201d<\/strong><\/h5>\n
Teacher Maryam, who has been with the children since their makeshift tent classroom, remarks: \u201cAl-Zubairi School has restored life to the children of Al-Suwayda Camp as there is no future without education”. She continues ”This is a tangible result of CRB\u2019s commitment, enabling these children to realize their potential despite challenging circumstances that have severely affected the country\u2019s education system.<\/strong><\/h5>\n
Today, Al-Anoud dreams of becoming a doctor, joining hundreds of his peers who have rekindled their ambitions because of the opportunities provided by Al-Zubairi School. Amid continuing conflict across Yemen, this school stands as a beacon of hope in the desert of Marib, demonstrating that education can inspire resilience and optimism, even in the harshest conditions.<\/strong><\/h5>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
